Retail off-sale liquor licenses are held by establishments who sell packaged beer, wine, and distilled spirits for consumption off the premises.

These are common licenses for smaller stores, boutique stores, some types of internet retailers, and any store which wishes to sell only beer and wine packaged for off-site consumption.

A Type 86 California Liquor License is a license which allows an establishment such as a grocery store to bring in a representative of an alcohol manufacturer and do a tasting event. This could be a for a sample tasting of wine, beer, or distilled spirits.
